Over the last three months I have been working on a collaborative project called Boundaries with the writer Sophie Cunningham. We have walked, cycled, ferried and driven around thirty-five kilometres of the City of Melbourne’s boundary line, producing a 32 page publication with an essay and a series of photographs. The project will be launched with a public discussion, Boundaries: Mapping Melbourne at the Wheeler Centre on 30 November 2016. We will be joined with historian Gary Presland and water engineer Professor Tony Wong.
“What is the history and logic of the current boundaries of The City of Melbourne, and what do we discover when we walk them? Where were the borders, limits and landmarks of the area pre-colonisation, and do they relate in any way to the boundary lines we have today?”
This project has been supported by the City of Melbourne’s Arts Grants program. Copies of the publication are available, please email me via the Contact Page on this website if you are interested.
